Only one. That would be my husband, former controller to nerdy engineers, currently a happy, retired slumlord. The one that made sure the engineers kept costs under control. For some time, we've been needing to replace the door on the closet that houses a water heater at the duplex.
Back in the fall, (are we procrastinators or what?) we went to the duplex, and measured the existing closet. We knew we had to replace the door and it's frame, but we were counting on salvaging most of the structure's frame. Always thorough, Don meticulously measured, took photographs and did a short video with explanations and comments. I am OCD and ADD so I love his attention to detail. We returned home with the notes. Don went to the little house down the block to look at the door on the shed (built by a handyman years before...) in the back yard. Don took that design, and engineered a similar one to suit the requirements for the closet in the Heights! Bravo!
Within the last couple of weeks, Don built the door here in the garage. This morning we packed the truck up with the door, tools and necessary hardware, then headed to la casa duplex. The structure started out like this, without a door:
He removed the three pieces to the door frame:
He replaced the rotted framing with new lumber; then, we placed the door on blocks to raise it to the proper height, drilled holes for the pre-hung hinges, and hung the door. After some minor adjustments, POOF! we were done. We cleaned up, Don made some notes on what we need to finish the door, then talked on the way home about how we will fix the sides of the structure.
Another view:
The closet is too close to the garage to get a straight-on photo. Isn't it adorable? What color do you think? Maybe red? Way to go, Mr. Slumlord! Good job! Now take the day off.
