My old man's a farmer

I am a gardener.  I come from a long line of gardeners: vegetable and flowers.  My mother's father planted poppies, pink roses and tomatoes (to name a few) for my grandmother; my dad grew figs, tulips and other flowers for my mother, and my old man is growing vegetables for me.  I take care of the flowers.   (Mostly...)

Our back yard is tiny, oh so tiny compared to what we had down the street.  Good for us that we have the small yard when the kids are grown; we used the heck out of every square foot in the back yard at the little house.  The backyard at this house was perfectly landscaped by Ellen when we moved in here.  Now that it's our house, as plants have died, we decided to incorporate the new space into a vegetable garden.  We've been doing container gardening but this year we thought it would be fun to try planting in the ground.

Don's been working vegetable gardens since he lived on farms in Lawrence, Kansas during college.  When the weather conditions are right, he grows some pretty tasty vegetables.

He tells me that he hopes I have plenty of squash recipes...

This is two containers of green peppers together, from last years' container garden.  Don kept them alive during the winter freezes by carrying the two pots together into our garage.
